Our Goals For Mid Sussex
1 - Homes for the future
We have an ongoing shortage of doctors and dentists, and traffic and roads are getting worse. It is hard for people to support new housing when it only adds to these problems.
We will demand infrastructure before houses, insist on net zero and sustainable building, and tackle social housing waiting lists by buying back former council houses and building new homes. We will ensure developers fully financially contribute to the communities they build in.
2 - Make the environment our priority
We will declare a Climate Emergency and we will help wildlife to thrive by creating a Nature Recovery Network.
The Lib Dems worked constructively to make sure that the Council's 'Sustainable Economy Strategy' included steps to tackle the Nature Crisis. The Council urgently needs to go further, and we will work with other councils, community groups and the public to protect the green spaces between our villages, look after our wildllife and make sure that we are taking all the steps we can to counter the climate emergency
3 - 21st Century High Streets
We will support the high streets you use so they can thrive - be it Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks or Burgess Hill.
After seven years and £350,000 of tax payers' money, the Conservatives have failed to regenerate Burgess Hill town centre. We are pushing the Conservatives to develop a Plan B and will do our best to help local shops and businesses adapt to changing shopping and working habits. We want to make getting around easy and are demanding that the county council provides well maintained roads and bus services
4 - Thriving Communities
You can't just build houses, you have to invest in communities too.
We want to give you the venues and outdoor spaces you need for sports, hobbies, the arts and voluntary organisations. We will continue to press for overdue improvements to Belmont Rec, and continue to support local community organisations.
