Mid Sussex deserves more than a half hearted MP

2 Apr 2010

Why are we putting up with a half hearted Conservative MP whose parliamentary duties seem incidental to his other activities? Mid Sussex's MP, Nicholas Soames earns huge sums from the three other jobs he holds down whilst failing to turn up for half the votes in Parliament. He received £350,000 for his other jobs - yet voters still pay the mortgage on his London home whilst he carries out these roles. The Daily Mail even reported recently that Mr Soames may be offered a position as French Ambassador if the Conservatives win the general election!

Isn't it time we had an MP that works fulltime for Mid Sussex?

Serena Tierney wants to change politics in our area by becoming the first Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Sussex following Norman Baker's success in the neighbouring Lewes Constituency.

Serena says "I will put local people first. I will be there to help, listen to your concerns and stand up for our community. I will be a fulltime MP and put my diary on my website so that you know what I am doing; make it easy for you to contact me; and report back regularly throughout the year and hear what you think I should be doing."

"I will make sure your voice is heard - locally and at Westminster. I will be a strong voice for Mid Sussex. I will continue to campaign for everyone in Mid Sussex; push for bank reform, getting them lending to our local businesses; fight for openness and sound financial management at Mid Sussex District Council; press for more police on our streets and to protect frontline health services."

"I will be open and honest about all expenses incurred in representing you. I will publish details of my expenses on my personal website, answer questions you may have about them promptly and openly; and continue to pay all my taxes in the United Kingdom."
