Meet our volunteers: Cllr Richard Bates

Hear from Cllr Richard Bates about why he joined the Lib Dems:
When did you join the Lib Dems?
@1975
What made you join the party?
I had a policital upbringing and found out later I am a 4th generation Liberal
What was the final push to make you get actively involved?
Making contact with the Party activated by the Hove by-election in 1973 where Robert Eggleston first cut his teeth and later on we were involved in a local break through in Brighton.
Have you always been involved in politics?
Yes and I was first elected in 1979 against a Tory/Thatcher landslide - nice for the epitaph!
What do you do when not volunteering?
Running and and listening to music.
What type of volunteering activity do you get involved with?
Leafleting and campaigning. Races outside of politics but now down to pottering around the West Sussex Fun Run and league events to gain a vital point for the Harriers.
What do you get out of volunteering with the Lib Dems?
64$ question! Seeing how the Party has merged and progressed. Each campaign is a new challenge with the hope of reaching the summit of being back in Government and having an enlightened nation!
