Lib Dems highlight water concerns in new homes plan

A plan to build 800 more homes at Bolnore Village could have worrying consequences for local residents, comments Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Serena Tierney.

"It is a matter of major concern that both water companies say they cannot provide the infrastructure to support the planned 800 new houses. South East Water say they can support just 20 more. According to Southern Water there is no facility for pumping out sewage on that side of the railway line.

"The developers are aware of the problems but want to get round them by pumping sewage across the railway and out through Rumbolds Lane. That clearly will have an impact on residents there as well as at Bolnore."

Serena Tierney has written to the water and railway companies asking for their views on the developers 'solution'.

"The existing residents of Bolnore and Rumbolds Lane are entitled to expect that their environmental standards will not suffer when more houses are built. It is essential that the infrastructure can cope with the new demand before any houses are constructed," adds Serena.
