We're delighted to introduce to you your Liberal Democrat Burgess Hill Town Council Candidates for the elections on 2nd of May:
| Robert Eggleston for St Johns Ward Robert has lived in Burgess Hill for most of his adult life. A qualified solicitor he is a company lawyer and Head of Credit for a major vehicle and equipment finance company. He is Chair of Burgess Hill Fairtrade and is an active promoter and supporter of arts development in the town. He is using his experience to provide advice on the proposed new community arts venue. A former councillor, he has served at all levels from town to county council. Robert believes that the community must have a greater say in the town's redevelopment. | |

| Joseph Foster Joseph has lived in Burgess Hill since 2015 and works in the centre of town, as a digital product manager. He's passionate about providing practical solutions to local problems, calling for a common sense approach to solving local traffic issues (e.g. the McDonalds roundabout). He is focused on how the council can connect better with residents making democracy more transparent and accessible. Joseph is also Chair of Burgess Hill Liberal Democrats | |
| Tofojjul Hussain Tofojjul has lived in Burgess Hill for thirty five years as owner of the popular Shapla Restaurant and retired last year.He has supported local charities and is a Committee member of Mid Sussex Islamic Centre in Haywards Heath and former Chair of the Sussex Bangladeshi Caterers Association. Tofojjul has three sons and a daughter. His grandson goes to London Mead School.Town centre parking and congestion is a particular concern and the need to support local businesses in the town. | |

| Simon Hicks Simon is a long term resident of Leylands ward and has served the area as a Councillor on Burgess Hill Town Council. Trained as an accountant Simon works with disadvantaged people across the South East. Simon is concerned at the prospect of traffic congestion in the area, particularly on Leylands Road and Maple Drive and will campaign for better parking facilities at Wivelsfield Station. | |
| Max Nielson Max has lived in Burgess Hill for 22 years. Max was a co- opted governor at a local primary school for four years. A retired teacher, Max taught at a high achieving maintained school in Crawley for 27 years. Max will work hard to get a community arts centre in Burgess Hill, to replace the Martlets Hall that the Tories gave away.He will also campaign to save the town's library from being downgraded. Town centre regeneration is important but not at the expense of public assets. | |

| Graham Allen Graham has lived in Burgess Hill for 33 years, the last 21 as a resident in Franklands ward.He has served as a PTA treasurer and a school governor over that time and feel that education is extremely important for our next generations. He is concerned about uncontrolled building of new houses in and around the town, without the right infrastructure to support it.Graham wants to see the town centre redeveloped for the benefit of the residents rather than the developers. | |
| Janice Henwood Janice has lived in Burgess Hill for 39 years in the heart of Franklands ward.She has had many years' experience as a District Councillor and is the only opposition councillor on Burgess Hill Town Council. Janice is a governor at Manor Field Primary School and is actively involved in the Burgess Hill Community Food Bank.An active environmentalist, Janice is a member of the Friends of Green Circle and was, for many years, a volunteer in the education programme at Wakehurst. | |
| Sarah Lawrence for Hammonds Ridge Sarah lives in Burgess Hill. She has a long and successful career in Human Resources and is currently Head of HR for a top London public relations firm.She is highly experienced in mediation, dispute resolution, negotiating and providing both common sense and strategic advice to resolve complex issues.Her previous charity work includes working as a call volunteer for the Samaritans. Sarah cares deeply about fairness, equality and putting local people at the heart of every decision. As a commuter, addressing issues to improve the towns' transport links and services are also a key interest. | |
| Lee Gibbs for Victoria Lee lives in the heart of Victoria ward and commutes to Gatwick Airport where he has worked for the past 5 years in Aviation Security. He previously did work for the Salvation Army and Surrey Clubs for Young people, a charity raising funds in order to provide outlets and opportunities for the development of young people. Lee is passionate about the need to press on with the regeneration of the town centre which has stalled under the Tories and in particular want to see the replacement for the Martlets Hall built as soon as possible. |
