East Grinstead Town Twinning Threatened by Brexit

East Grinstead Town Twinning

East Grinstead has five twin towns in France, Germany, Spain, Austria and Italy, and a friendship agreement with Tramin in Italy. The twinning and friendship associations help to make contact and build friendships between communities, particularly among young people within the respective towns. The European Union has supported East Grinstead's town twinning under its "Europe for Citizens" programme, contributing approximately £27,000 over the last decade.

Brexit threatens to disrupt East Grinstead's town twinning programme on two fronts: depriving East Grinstead Town Twinning Association of much-needed funds, and preventing its European twin towns from applying for EU grants to visit East Grinstead. No UK government source of funding has been identified to compensate for this loss.
