Commuters to be  clobbered again. Its time to “Freeze the Fares”

22 Sep 2019

Robert Eggleston, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Mid Sussex is calling upon the government to freeze rail fares at their current level and not increase them by 2.8% in 2020.

"The proposed increase in rail fares next year will be on top of several years of inflation busting increases and will be a price rise too far for many passengers. An annual season ticket from Burgess Hill to London Victoria will cost £4,301 and to London Bridge will cost £4,050 if this rise goes ahead.

The cost of investing in our railways shouldn't fall onto rail users (especially commuters - whohave no real choice but to travel to work by train). A complete re-think on how rail investment is funded is needed as it is not right to put the cost of it onto hard-pressed passengers."
