Call-in of Mid Sussex District Council Cabinet decision on Affordable Housing

24 Apr 2006

At its meeting on the 10th April the Mid Sussex District Council Cabinet threw out the recommendations by officers and its own Policy Better Lives Advisory Policy group and rejected the view that Developers should fund up to 40% of affordable houses in the Mid Sussex Area.

Cllr. Graham Knight, Liberal Democrat Group Leader at the District Council feels this is letting the whole of the Mid Sussex Community down and Developers off the hook.

Cllr. Knight goes on to say 'we need affordable homes in Mid Sussex for our children and grandchildren to live in. Mid Sussex has a deficit which is worsening each year. This is an opportunity which must not be lost. Currently there are 2700 on the Common Housing register in Mid Sussex, waiting up to 7-8 years for a home. This number is increasing year on year. The Cabinet by its actions is helping to make a bad situation worse. This is why the Liberal Democrats, with cross party support, have called in this decision for scrutiny.
