Alison Bennett's Monday Mail - The Most Ambitious Change
Welcome to my Monday Mail for 17 June 2024, as I share a few of the things I've been doing and thinking about this past week, including our Liberal Democrat manifesto launch, endorsements and postal voting.
The Most Ambitious Change
My week started with a morning in London at the launch of the Liberal Democrat Manifesto. The manifesto is fully costed, and with the main manifesto running to 116 pages, one thing you can be sure of is that the Lib Dems are never short of detail when it comes to policy.
This interview with Ed Davey in the Observer sets out why our manifesto is the most ambitious programme of change. Particularly important highlights for me include a pledge to guarantee that cancer treatment will start within 62 days of urgent referral (see the chapter on Health) and the commitment to a European Youth Mobility Scheme (see the chapter on Immigration and Asylum).
This research by YouGov comparing the popularity of proposals of each party shows how our policies have been very positively received by the public.
A former Conservative joins my campaign
This week a former colleague from the Council - Clive Laband - publicly endorsed my candidacy. Clive used to be a Conservative, but as he set out in an open letter, he felt that he could no longer in good conscience support the Conservative Party. Thank you Clive for your support.
Two Important Deadlines this Week
If you are not already on the electoral roll, you must Register to Vote by 11.59pm on Tuesday 18th June.
If you can’t vote in person and want a Postal Vote - your application must be completed by 5pm on Wednesday 19th June.
Best wishes,
Cllr Alison Bennett
Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats
