Stuart Condie

Moved to Burgess Hill in 1985 after starting work at Gatwick Airport, then got married and had two daughters who went to school in the town. I'm a UK/France dual national.

Currently live in Ferndale Road (Burgess Hill East) and previously in Royal George Road (Burgess Hill North) so 35 years in the town.

My working career has mostly been in aviation where I was inter alia BAA Chief Economist, Corporate Treasurer and latterly Planning Director and held Non-Executive Directorships (NEDs), in investments in Australian airports, Heathrow Express, NATS and SESAR, a Brussels based R&D industry body.

In 2009 I started a new career as an independent transport consultant; I was a NED then chair at Shoreham Port 2012-17 and started four small companies and invested in two others.

Served as an elected then appointed pension fund trustee for 20 years for two different final salary schemes ending up as chair for both. Was also trustee in two charities (Cranfield Trust and Marlipins Museum).

Currently a non-executive director at Brighton Energy Cooperative which invests in community based solar power projects.

Recently helped establish Sussex based writing group Chalk Circle (currently Treasurer) and am a published novelist and successful short story writer.

Was Governor at Southway school and am currently a governor at Burgess Hill Girls, chairing the Finance Committee.

Active runner and cyclist. Been athletics coach at Burgess Hill Runners for 20 years, where I was also Head Coach and club secretary. I also served as a regional counsellor for England Athletics. Currently promoting a potential multiuser sports facility (hockey pitch/athletics track) at Burgess Hill Academy for community purposes.

Lib Dem Values

Lib Dems have always stood for local powers, the environment and internationalism. I believe strongly in all three of these. Member since 1979 - did leaflet delivery for first European parliament elections. Chair of Burgess Hill branch for the last year.

Why am I standing?

I want to help improve the lives of the citizens of West Sussex and I think I have the background and motivation to do this.
