Mid Sussex District Plan

Mid Sussex District Council have a responsibility to produce a Local Plan that sets out the strategy for planning in our area. The National Planning Policy Framework that sets out how councils should develop Local Plans was published in March 2012, however the council is still working on its Local Plan. Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats believe it is important that the Local Plan leads to the delivery of an appropriate mixture of housing, particularly affordable housing, that meets the needs of our local communities whilst preventing the loss of our town and villages' identities. It is equally important that new development is supported by adequate infrastructure including schools, health services and transport links as well as open spaces.

We feel that the recent Main Modifications to the District Plan produced by Mid Sussex District Council do not fully meet these aims, in particular the proposed additional strategic housing site in Hassocks to the North of Clayton Mills. Our full concerns are listed in the Mid Sussex Local Party's response to the consultation and the additional response submitted by the Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint branch.
