Meet our volunteers: Lars Janssen
By Samantha Payne
Hear from Lars Janssen about why he joined the Lib Dems:
When did you join the Lib Dems?
What made you join the party?
I have been voting Lib Dems for many years and it became clear that they were the party with the clearest message to stop Brexit. It seemed most of my pro-Europe contacts on Twitter were joining and that the party had real momentum behind it.
What was the final push to make you get actively involved?
After joining the new members welcome meeting, I got a better understanding of how campaigning works, and realised that I can make far more difference by delivering leaflets than by tweeting.
Have you always been involved with politics?
Opinionated during election periods, but otherwise not.
What do you do when not volunteering?
I am a software engineer commuting to London every day. I like to spend weekends with my wife and to go travelling, in fact I just returned from visiting friends in Ghana, who are just as bemused by Brexit as we are!
What type of activity do you get involved with?
Leafleting and organising volunteers in my local ward to do the same, sometimes canvassing, helping a bit with the social media accounts and occasional IT help.
What do you get out of volunteering with the Lib Dems?
Joining a community of really nice, local people. A sense that I can make a real difference to the outcome instead of watching helplessly. Also, I know the streets of Haywards Heath considerably better now!
