Haywards Heath Town Centre Redevelopment

December 1, 2005 12:00 AM

A major plan to change the future look and layout of the town centre is to go out for public consultation in the new year (2006). Lib Dem campaigner Serena Tierney called a public meeting to give local people the chance to say what's important to them. The council will now consult more widely on proposals which could affect many aspects of the way the town looks and feels.

The plans will be available for public comment in the new year and Liberal Democrats urge local people to take the opportunity to look at them and make their views known.

The plans include proposals for re-siting the railways station; Improving the adjacent bus, taxi and car commuter interchange; Changes to The Broadway, Muster Green and South Road to tackle traffic flows and parking.

Council Offices and amenity facilities may be off the agenda for the moment but Lib Dems believe that they should be reviewed at the same time. A strategy for Haywards Heath needs to take into account all of the issues facing the town.

Any changes to Clair Hall and Age Concern would affect many people. Councillor Christine McLean is concerned that the town needs an upgrade in local amenities; not a loss of valuable resources to become car parks, offices and housing.

"Local people need to be asked and to make clear their views... Liberal Democrats will be seeking to gain many improvements this town badly needs and has been waiting to see for a long time."
